What inspired me were games I owned as a kid on my Super Nintendo.
What influenced me are moreso the games I played on Game Boy Advance. Around the time the GBA was out, people had the ability to rip sprites and place them on a big sprite sheet. I would browse sprite websites for hours. eventually, I used them for reference and started making sprites myself (2004, age 14). Most of sprites I featured in my book are from games that influenced me.
Around 2004-2008 I was influenced by my close friends and Ahruon (Daniel Oliver) between ‘08 and ‘12 I kinda quit pixel art. Then in ‘13, artists like Snakepixel and Konjak really were a big inspiration.
In general though, i’ve always been more influenced by Japanese pixel art. since most of the games I looked up to were JPN
